SEO Pro 0.4 to 0.6: indexing, speed, sitemaps and more

IndexNow and verification codes, page speed over time, seven more rich result types and templates, CSV in Bulk, a weekly SEO email, a Sitemaps tab - and your sitemap sent to Google.

SEO is built into every Domma CMS site: an audit of every page, redirects, the sitemap and robots.txt. SEO Pro builds on it. Three releases in quick succession - 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 - have nearly doubled what it does. Here is what is new, tab by tab.

Indexing (0.4)

  • Verification codes for Google, Bing, Pinterest and Yandex. Paste the code from each service; the tag goes on your home page.
  • IndexNow. Tick one box and Bing, Yandex, Seznam, Naver and Yep are told within a minute whenever a page is published, changed, renamed or deleted. Google does not take part in IndexNow - it reads your sitemap instead.
  • A page's own robots rules - its real address (canonical), nofollow, no snippet, no image index and the rest, set per page.
  • Large previews are on by default, so Google may show a big image and a full snippet for your pages.

Speed (0.4)

PageSpeed and Core Web Vitals for mobile and desktop, page by page, kept over time so you can see whether a change helped. Google's own tips are listed with each result. Tests run on a schedule you choose. Google's free allowance for these tests runs out quickly, so a free Google API key is usually needed.

Rich results (0.4)

Seven new types join FAQ, how-to, product, event and local business: article, recipe, video, course, software app, review and service. Each is checked against Google's required and recommended fields before it goes out.

Templates fill a whole section at once. Give /blog/* an article template with {title}, {date} and {image}, and every post carries it without being edited one by one.

Bulk (0.4)

The grid of every page's title and description gains focus keyphrase and hidden from search engines columns. Take the whole grid out to a spreadsheet and back as CSV - handy when a copywriter works on titles away from the admin.

A weekly SEO email (0.4)

Once a week, on the day you choose, a short report by email: the score, broken links, the busiest missing pages and, with Search Console connected, clicks and searches. Switch it on in Pro settings.

Sitemaps (0.5)

A new tab for the sitemap search engines are given:

  • Priority and change frequency rules, for a page or a whole section. The most specific rule wins.
  • One file per kind - pages, blog posts and so on - listed in an index, for big sites.
  • A video sitemap, built from your Video rich results and named in robots.txt.
  • A site map for visitors. Put [sitemap /] on any page - a Site map page, or your 404 page - and it lists every page, grouped by section, kept up to date on its own.
  • A sitemap for another site. Give it the address of a site not built here - a customer's old site, say - and SEO Pro follows its links, obeying its robots.txt, and writes a sitemap.xml to download.

Sent to Google (0.6)

With Search Console connected, Send to Google hands your sitemap over from the Sitemaps tab, and it goes again by itself whenever pages change - once a day at most. 0.6.1 also finds the right Search Console property for a site on a subdomain. There is more on this in Google Search Console, inside your admin.
