Dashboard
Updated by Darryl Waterhouse on 13 October 2026 · 3 min read
The Dashboard is the admin's home: what the site is doing and what needs you, at a glance - page views today, visitors now, pages and drafts, form submissions, site health, the traffic chart and a "Needs attention" list gathered from every screen's sidebar badge. Every site has it, and it looks the same for everyone.
Dashboard Pro: Dashboards you build yourself
With the Dashboard Pro Tool (from the Marketplace), the sidebar entry becomes Dashboards: one place, as tabs. The first tab, Overview, is the Dashboard above - always there, and it cannot be moved or removed. After it come your own boards of widgets, which each person arranges for themselves. Where another Tool owns the Dashboard - the fleet manager's, say - that is the Overview tab instead. Switch Dashboard Pro off and the entry goes back to Dashboard at once; everyone's boards are kept for when it comes back.
Adding widgets
Choose Add widget in the banner, or right-click anywhere on the board. The gallery lists every widget from the Tools you may open, grouped by Tool, with a search box. There are three kinds of source:
- Built in: Traffic (the last 30 days), Visitors now, Needs attention, Recent activity, Site health and Top pages. The administrator-only ones (traffic, activity, health) are offered to administrators only.
- Every Tool with a count in the sidebar: unread email, bookings, support tickets, form submissions, pages, media and the rest - the same number as its badge, with the badge's details beneath.
- Widgets a Tool adds of its own - anything richer than a count.
You only ever see widgets for Tools you are allowed to open.
Arranging the board
- Move: drag a card by its grip (the three lines at its left), or use Move earlier / Move later in its menu. With a card focused, Alt+arrow keys move it and Delete removes it.
- Size: Small, Medium, Large or Full width, from the card's ⋮ menu or by right-clicking it.
- Fold: the chevron folds a card to its title bar; the double chevron in the banner folds or opens them all. A folded card does not refresh until you open it again.
- Remove: from the card's menu. It stays in the gallery to add again.
Cards pack upwards, so a short one never leaves a gap that a later card could fill. Each card refreshes on its own, and at once when its Tool's count changes.
Several boards
Keep up to twelve boards - Sales, Content, Support - as tabs after the Overview. + (on any Dashboards tab) makes a new one and opens the gallery for it. Right-click a board's tab (or double-click it to rename) to rename, duplicate, move or delete it. Each board has its own widgets and arrangement, and its own address, so you can bookmark it. The board you were last on is the one that opens from the boards.
Settings (the cog)
The cog in the banner holds your own settings:
- Name - what your Dashboards are called, in the banner, the browser tab and the sidebar entry. Each board's own name is its tab.
- Greeting - good morning, your name and today's date.
- Columns - 3, 4 or 6 on a wide screen. A narrow window always uses fewer.
- Cards - normal or compact.
- Updates - Live, Slower (three times as long between refreshes), or Paused (only when you press Refresh).
- Open on my boards - signing in, or pressing Dashboards in the sidebar, opens the board you used last instead of the Overview. The Overview tab is always one click away.
For administrators
- The default: Make this the default for everyone in the banner makes the board you are on the starting point for everyone who has not arranged their own. Reset takes anyone back to it.
- Dashboards name (in the cog, under For everyone) - what Dashboards is called for everyone who has not named their own.
- Lock the layout - everyone but administrators sees the site's default board and can fold and refresh widgets but not add, move, resize or remove them. Turning the lock off gives people their own boards back.
For Tool authors
A Tool with a sidebar count already has a widget. For anything more, a Tool lists widgets in its plugin.json under admin.widgets - a kind (count, stat, list or chart) and a data route, no code. See Dashboard widgets in the plugin guide.
